Real, it can be paralyzing, stopping people from taking action. The longer we avoid or run away from it, the stronger it grows.
If a person shows physical signs of nervousness, that can affect his/her self confidence and esteem. He/she may be angry with himself/herself for the lack of self control over the symptoms. Helpless, hopeless and defeated. They can feel useless.
Sharing about our weaknesses are often hard. It feels vulnerable. We do not know how others will look at us. What if they reject us? We may think that it is better to keep quiet about our fears than risk rejection. Sometimes, we may feel that others do not understand us as they do not have the same problems. Merely talking about the problems without finding a solution can also be tiring. We do not want to be reminded of the problems by talking about it.
"No point telling others. They don't understand anyway. They will think that I'm weak and despise me.”
"I don't want to talk about it. It is a mental torture.”
"Others may think that I'm abnormal, I better keep quiet and protect my pride or maintain my dignity."
Therefore we can suffer in silence with the unspoken fears.
